Bluray player - my first standalone player

Presenting you my so-called first blu ray player! Ok, there's really nothing to shout at, but I am totally happy about it even though my PS3 is able to playback both DVD and BD disc.

Now, I can enjoy my BD movies either in bedroom or living room, just a matter that there's no home theater system in the bedroom.

I am so proud to own the player after considering for 1-2 years. Why?

The initial plan is get the code free Oppo BD player. But due to it's high cost, I decided to forgo that and not to think about it since I have the media player for my movies. Anyway, the media player allow you to playback audio codec from dts and Dolby.

But, to be frank, if you are a tru blu home theater enthusiastic and also wanted to have decent sound from the player, get the Oppo.

Why spend thousand over dollars on 1 CD player? Unless you have the entire audiophile set like tube amp or monoblock etc...

Nevertheless, this LG is cheap and good. Luckily there's sales on it, if not, I don't think I will get it all. I didn't even bother to read up this review, so please do not quote me.


Finally gotten myself a bluray player at $139 from Harvey Norman


I just need a player that can run both BD and DVD. Furthermore, the price for this can get me a decent DVD player.

Dune HD media player

I was talking with my friend earlier on about media player and he claimed to say the Dune HD is the better one to get now.

Personally, I have lost touch with these media player due to lack of time figuring and playing back. I still have my trustworthy Elekron 606 and the last played is last month... hurray, it is still working well.

If you have tons of movies in your computer, maybe sources from Giganews or ripped out from DVD or BD, try put them on media player if you really enjoy surround system. How nice is it to have the 5.1 or 7.1 running when watching the movie?

Let's not get into those hi end or really-crazy-fellas who do up a home theater room. Of course, it is great to have such room unless either, you have a spare room to do up or you have 1 kid.

When you do a home theater system room, there are lots of thing to consider at. Calibration and killing some frequency. Oh dear, are we talking about studio set up now? Hell no... it is not. There are people who are so particular that they really want to eliminate the frequency.

Being an audio engineer of myself, having studied a lot on sound, sometime I will chose to close one eyes regarding to home theater sounding. Reason? Can you tell the different? I will applaud if you does. Minority people have sensitive ears to certain frequency. Majority? They read and try to follow as much as possible. I find it amusing with that. You sure?

I dare not to say anything because to each of their own. Maybe they do.

Having said about HTS, why not concentrate on the movie you enjoy with the decent set up?

dts surround speaker layout

You heard it from people about surround like 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 etc... But do you know more about them?

Below are all the dts surround speakers layout ranging from 2.0 till 7.1.

With the graphic shown, it seem easier to understand the entire layout. But of course, it depent on what kinda encoder you wanna use on your amp.

I was quite surprise to see all these layout on the dts surcode program, hence I decided to share with you.

This is all about dts (digital theater system) and not dolby. But layout is somewhere about the same.

For better understanding, these are the code name (I hope I did not get wrong tho):

Cooling night!

I must say that yesterday night had been a terrific weather! Though it is cold, I cannot help myself by turning on the fan! Can you imagine how the great the feel is?

AWESOME!

I had been mingling around about my NMT jukebox last night and finally gotten done by only 75%. I got to do it all over again because of the movies I had in my drive. As there are too many folders for full blu-ray ripped, the YAMJ (Yet Another Music Jukebox) detect all the short feature clips!

I have to make sure that I have the movie name rename correctly and all of them MUST be in the same folder of movie. By doing this, I allow the YAMJ 'read' the whole movies. Once I clicked the hard disk logo, I am not be able to see the category like video, music, photos etc. Instead, it will launch the jukebox immediately.

So I got to move my TV series and musical under same folder of movie. I am still figuring how to give tag to my tv series and musical. I wanted my musical concert under the tag of musical and my tv shows under TV series. I have yet to get that clear, hoping the people from networked media tank forum can help me along.

This is the thread of how to install and config YAMJ.

Why am I using YAMJ and not collectorz? Reason is simple.

YAMJ = Free
Collectorz = USD45

and one more reason

I can have YAMJ on my external hdd to nmt via USB.
Collectorz (My Lil Jukebox) must use ext3 hdd. (Buffalo able to. But it is NOT cheap at all.)

I decided to keep my entire movies and have YAMJ do my entire jukebox. Look like I got to set up a lot of movie box set and animation together. Now, I need 1.5TB hdd and a USB dock! Enjoy the fullness of the movie!

Car servicing and my NMT

Done with car servicing at autosaver last week and the service from them is fantastic. It is much cheaper than TCM a lot. But because I did not bring any E.O. there, so there's extra $30 charges when I opt for Mobil 1.

Some items got to change like fan belt, drum brake and my air con filter. All these add up $454 in the end when the initial cost is just $193 if nothing is going to change. Can't be in help. But glad that the cost is cheaper and luckily my disc brake pads are still usable and need not to change for a new one.

I finally work on my NMT and it is working really fine.

Had my bi wired done on my Front left and right speaker done over the weekend. I never thought of changing until I wanted to change the power supply which I just got it recently.

I bought tamica power conditioner for $100 with 1 year warranty, and had it changed for my amp, DVD player, TV and NMT. So I decided to change the bi wire cables at the same time, the thickness of the cable is so slim compared to the one I had previously, which made the whole area neater by 50%.

Once I got it done, I had my NMT hook up and yes, it work flawlessly while watching my blu ray movies. If you are interested in NMT set up and so and so forth, read it here. I had it posted and guided the owners of Elektron-EHP 606 on some tutorial set up. Best for the beginners.

You can rip out your own movies from blu-ray, but you will require at least 8hrs because of full ripping. Each show is about 40gb, so you have to justify if you want to do that, and spend hours for your BR-Rom to rip out the entire stuff. Best to have a separate computer to do it unless you do not want to use your internet, or rather, have it rip over the night. if you have 100 over titles, I suggest you rip those you love to watch occasionally. Anyway, you still can watch on your Blu ray player, so it is not so bad.

If you want more movies, find Giganews usenet providers for information. They have unlimit usenet groups to get what you want.

After getting the files, load to your NMT and there you go... movies on your TV with DTS!

I just watch The Unit in the morning and noticed that it is Dolby Digital encoded. Great!

I also decided not to set up juke box because I always have movies coming in and it is hard to keep on refreshing the titles I have on NMT. It can be simple to do it, but rather to say, it is pain in the ass to change it each time.

Of course, for rmvb playback, you can use MyiHome too. But alternatively, you can use rmvb player to playback the shows you want on TV, or have the rmvb format converted to video_ts, so that you can load in to your NMT and watch it.
Program to use: ConvertXtoDVD or use WINAVI software to do it.

Spend and more knowledge

I am still unable to solve why I cannot connect my NMT wireless to my router. WEP key, IP add, subnet, gateway and DNS had been key in manually for 5times, but still no happy screen shown when I click onto Internet Radio. However, I went to Funan after I had finished recording during noon time to get my Lan cable since Alex Wong told me to try using that.


Gotten this Belkin LAN cable of 15.2m from Challenger to test my router to my NMT. Yes, it works!

I also managed to find DI.FM internet radio by searching under Country. I had no idea if I can save the radio station because I do not want to find that particular channel by clicking next for 10 times! But at the same time, I think I should get myself a small mini hi-fi, so that I can inset analog left and right to it on Aux. I am able to enjoy my internet music whole night by doing that. A small will do tho. But I need to solve the wireless first as laying the cable on the floor is quite untidy and dangerous because we still have to attend to cait in the middle of night.


Initially I wanted to get myself 2 x Canon Original 5D batts, but a pity that CP do not have stock anymore. Hence, I made a trip to The Camera Work Shop and gotten this instead.
$25 each, comparing to about $100 for a batt. The boss suggested me to use this instead and I shall give a try later on as I am charging it.
I saved even more this time round. Let's hope this Divipower is better than the wonder Camera Device batt. Finger cross! I am hoping that I will not face the camera go low batt!

Wifey and me are starting to think of some ideas to shoot our princess, so I need to gather some baby photos to create some interesting shot which not a lot of photographer did before. Some of the mummies wanted me to do it, but as wifey thought that same as me, she told them that, let's look at the photo first before deciding. Best of all, it will be great to understand what kinda feel and mood the parents want to have their own personalise theme. I am open to ideas.

I am interested in getting the power conditioner for the system protection.

This is consider a little expensive. Around $120++. G&W from HK.

Kinda weird that my SCV digital setup box went dead earlier on. No power at all! Look like I have to make a trip down to Starhub to get it change, but at the same time, I am considering if I should get the HD Hubstation also. I have to justify IF my parent will do recording for the shows or not. After typing this, it seem to be zero and I shall have it until I move in to the new house.

Both wifey and I have a lot of place to run later on (noon), and hope that everything will be done up asap. So that I can enjoy the movie at night, as well as setting up the jukebox too.

I am considering if I should install the Jukebox as I am going to get a lot of movies, and each time I watched, I will delete it off unless it is one of my favourite movie too. Right now, I am able to get my collectorz done but I am stuck at the username and password because I have no idea for that at all. I have not jot down how many movies I have in NMT and get the name of the movies on collectorz so that I can export the information to the NMT. But then again, where does the information goes to is another question for me again! Though it is a little confusing here and there, but I am happy to do it and crack my brain by solving it! Fun and interesting!

Oh. This is one interesting site that I gotten. It is meant to fix and merge the m2ts files after getting your stuff. I had a few of the movies in that format and having over 20 separate files, having some of it in small size and one of it been at least 4 gb and above, which I firmly think it is the correct file to playback that.

I had not set up MyiHome yet, if not I can view my rmvb on TV tomorrow thru that!

12hrs of sleep and my money kept going out...!

I cannot believed that I can sleep for 12hrs straight last night from 8pm. Too many factors to conclude.

Since I am on leave yesterday, I decided to run some errands in the morning before heading to Ken house to fix my NMT.

As I mentioned before, the defected batch from WD Green is WD10EADS-00L5B1. So I went down to Achieva at Macpherson to get it change. The girl told me to fill up the RMA form while she proceed to get it change. After a while, the girl came back with the same model batch of HDD and I asked if they have other batch instead. She just told me that this is 1 to 1 exchange tho. I even asked what if it failed again? She returned  a smile and full of confusion in her head. Not to make her in difficult spot, I went off with that HDD and try out first.

After the exchange of HDD, I went to Keppel Bay to collect my camera. Charges is $0. According to CSO, the girl mentioned that they change something on the battery...? I cannot get what she is talking about. I tried with 2 x Camera Device batts and saw that battery indicator showing empty. Luckily the CSO girl lend me the batteries to try out first when I stupidly told her I will try it at home as I suspect battery went flat.

Tried their Canon batteries and it show full! I head home happily and tried charging it. Ok, it is full on charger, but show empty on camera. See? Luckily I tried there!

I declare my 3 x Camera Device batteries went dead and having only 1 x Original Canon batt still standing strong. I think I should grab 1 more original batt which will cost me $120 ea. Look like I cannot avoid by getting 2 more Camera Devices batt to stand by. Another spending moment....

That's not all!

I reached Ken house at 2pm and shortly, my coll, K, arrived too. He understood and very impressed with the output from the NMT. A good purchase tho. You do not need a Blu Ray anymore, unless you are a pure collector!

Tried mounting on and everything went fine after formatting it. Just when he is transferring files, all of us went up his room to check out the new audiophile tube amp he just gotten. I am so tempted to get another amp for own room to show my movies. But sadly that there's no space to mount it! Cash is one reason too. I will look at the lower end of Denon with maybe Podspeakers? Ok, I shall not poison too much as I can watch it in living room, but my parent prefer to watch their SCV show in the LR! Look like we got to compromise tho.

When we got down to his living room, NMT light went off. Ken and I were certain that the HDD went haywire AGAIN!

Quickly, together with my wifey and baby, we head off to Macpherson again after dropping K along the way.

Reach the place and told the same girl that the hdd failed again! I requested for another batch but according to her supervisor, this is the only batch they have there. She told me to call Western Digital head office to make noise due to this error and see what WD office can do. As for achieva, there's nothing more they can do already. FYI, she admitted that this batch is a gone case as too many people came for 1 to 1!

I agreed to change again when she asked me if I want. While waiting, more and more people pop by and get their stuff for 1 to 1 exchange. It took her about 10 min to get back to me. Telling me that she gotten the same batch, but different number. (Seem like she did try looking for another HDD that is not same number.)

Showing on the HDD: WD10EADS-65L5B1. I am hoping this one will be alright for me. For the past 2 HDD I gotten is manufactured on April while this is May.

If this fail again, I had nothing to say anymore but to state that it might be incompatible? As I am so tired of running around getting it done, I thought of getting another brand of HDD instead, while this WD will be my storage of movies. I might as well get a HDD docking station to connect to my NMT. So that I can store a lot of movies to my 1TB - 1.5 TB HDD, all I need to do is to switch the HDD on the docking station. I can save even more rather than buying an external HDD.

Feeling bad to ask Ken to help me non stop, I decided to drop by his house during noon time and get my items back. Anyway, he is still copying the stuff, which was why I left my things there again. I can only try it tonight by transferring the items.

After seeing Ken had the jukebox in his NMT, I decided to get it done up too. But first, get my freaking NMT up first! I shall report more tonight. Another fella changed to Samsung HDD and everything works fine for him!

When I had the HDD changed, we head to Lot 1 to meet wifey coll for dinner and short talk. Soon, we head home and rest. It wasn't like before. Got home, bathe and relax. Now, after getting home, bathe the baby, feed her, then adult can wash up but got to hoax the baby to sleep first! After making her to sleep, I went to bed and doze off for 12hrs! Woke up for 5min, and then, back again! To think I had a super long dream! OMG!

Now... got to buy docking station, new HDD and camera batteries.... Oh dear.. I just realise about car servicing! Brat!

Movie collector and my plan for wkend!

Thank you for dropping my blog and read some of the interesting... or rather... boring stuff I wrote.

I had a great smile on my face because someone is paying me for blogging about them. Seriously, I had no idea this will happen, but I shall reveal it later when everything finalise. Do stay tune.

It is easy to arrange and best part is that you can get the information from IMDB! Any information from IMDB, will be transfer to the Collectorz Movie. Try the trial which offer you 50 titles to start with, and if you hunger for more, purchase it!

And if you are a pure JukeBox lover on NMT, this is what you need. Everything from Collectorz Movie will be in Movie JukeBox. It is easy to view too. Everything seen from IMDB, appear on Movie JukeBox. That's why you need to have the network to access your NMT for updating.

I had not try that out yet because my NMT Elektron 606 is not here yet, which I am looking forward to this Saturday, if there's any possibility!

Since I be working this Saturday, I can drop by to SengKang to collect Duragloss claybar from Benny. A pity that he had stop detailing for people now, wondering if he is doing any detailing that day. My car badly need the polishing service!

I am quite worry about this Saturday recording because of the door. Our company door did not open, even using remote to disarm the lock is no use at all. So everyone had to proceed to ShengSiong to have breakfast and wait till the door had been fix.

Terrible security lock from them. Heard that they finally change the system board, which everyone is finger crossing! Thought that there will be a self declare day off, but too bad! LOL.

It is going to be really busy Saturday for me! Collecting and passing of items, going to AMK to buy diaper bag and maybe Tampines One for shopping.

Cait need a new cupboard! Her clothes... OVERFLOWING!

Maybe I should call them to get it clean up! I hate it when I got to take leave to collect my camera.

Canon cam in service center

Took half day to join mummies at Vivo City today. It was interesting to see 21 mummies, 19 babies and 5 children in Earle Swensen. Of course, including me, there are 3 hubbies attended this outing. Great thanks to Irene who fetch wifey to Vivo City just now, she also borrow our baby car seat for her baby while she drive.

Since Canon Service Center is nearby, I decided to bring my camera for a check up. I still having problem with my battery status showing when V grip had been attached. It tend to show flat instead of full although I had just charged it. How weird?! According to the CSO, I had my camera sent in last Oct and they only gave 3 months warranty after repair. Really pity. I have to wait for the technician to call me up for further assistance. I do not think that I will want to pay for another repair anymore as it cost me $300+ for both motherboard replaced. No point having it replace for the 2nd time. I shall work hard to earn myself a 5D MKII and keeping this as spare. Anyway, I intend to let the technician to clean my camera thoroughly since camera is already there.

Camera body is important to me now since lense can be borrow from my dear friend! LOL. Though he does not mind, I do hope to have enough for 50mm, 85mm and 135mm!

It was kinda funny and weird that I been smelling something weird in my study room as if there's smelly socks! Wifey and me tried to flip all the bags and determine at least 2 bags that could be the culprit. But hell no! When I wanted to bring my Macbook out to granny house, for her to view Cait swimming in the pool, I took the laptop bag, open it up and to my surprise! 2 empty jelly containers found! Thats where the sour stinky smell came from! Digusting! Hoping the smell will go away soon!

Tiring!

Ok, after this blogging, I really to dive on my bed and Zzz whole night. Slept for few hours as I got to burn some stuff for 10 people tho and the quantities are a lot! This morning, wifey and me head to Compass Point, Seng Kang for breakfast with other mummies too. I cannot imagine we, been in the west side, went all the way to east for breakfast! LOL. The feeling of having breakfast with so many people is interesting! There are 6 mummies and 4 daddies having makan session together. 2 Daddies cannot make it due to work and tired.

Food is ok as I have never eaten breakfast in Swensen before, but seriously, I will prefer authentic hawker food! Haha!

After the whole breakfast thing, both wifey and me along with Cait went to Rangoon Rd to collect sticker.


Gotten the sticker from Flamez Graphic at Rangoon Rd earlier today. Had ordered this in MCF and had the number 248 printed as well. Never knew my nick had been print out too!

The reason why the sticker had been place there is to cover the scratches I had on this car.

Price is not cheap but worth it. Had this sticker paste by one of the guys in the shop and they do provide installation if you ask for help. One of the guy came to me and mentioned that one of the forumers complaint that they did not help to do installation after paying so much! I am glad that they helped me with it tho. Great job by them. The guy also told me that the price is high due to chrome surface and of course, you can polish the car over it as it had lamination over it for protection.

Wifey told me to have the sticker place on the bumper which is a good choice after all.

I want to have the car polish nicely from the shop because it is ultra dirty now! I do not have time to wash it tho! Let alone to talk about watching my movies and playing games.

William dropped by yesterday to help me installing some files to the phone and PC but due to some error face and time duration, I decided not to go on installing Garmin on my phone. Next time I should go buy the GPS machine instead. I also have one of the program to help me out on finanical planning. Thanks William (again)

NMT is not here yet due to Dragon Boat Festival, so finger cross about it. I saw Panny 60 at NM selling at $599 and I was so tempted! Was looking and calculating the time spend on watching and buying disc, I drop the idea off as it does not compromise at all. NMT still the best for me now. I am sure Panny 60 price will drop in near future.

Another thing I am so tempted is camera Panny LX 3! I tried the cam from one of the mummies during this morning outing, the output is nice and great! I shall see if I can get it next time, and pretty sure to say that it worth of any and penny to get this cam! 2 thumbs up!

As I was talking about usenet previously, this AstraWeb worth any shit from Giganews! Why? It is in US $ and costing USD 11 monthly having 20 connections and unlimited DSL of 285 days retention days! (Purely under promotion now) Now I regret having Xennews and damn that I signed up for 1mth! SGD 25 comparing to SGD 18 with similiar benefits but lower retention days...

Oh yes, talking about Wii. I can finally load the game using USBloader, but had not try on force region yet. This is because the screen kinda skipping non stop when loading. I am so happy for the result when I saw the loader is reading my USB hdd. I shall go and buy a new thumb drive and have it to load game instead. Reason that I cannot let the USBloader read the HDD is due to cIOS36 rev 10! Go for rev 9 instead via google, it work perfectly!

Great purchase and items on sale!

It was a tiring Saturday for everyone yesterday as in the morning, we went to pray at Waterloo St temple, then head to a small shop where they are selling lots of babies clothing at the very low cost! As everyone tummy is damn hungry, they head to the laksa stall and ordered 3 x laksa and 2 x nasi lemak! Ok, as we are so hungry, I simply cannot bother to take the camera out to snap. Wifey is carrying Cait while eating, and her movement got to be slow and steady, if not nasi lemak rice will drop on her face! LOL.

After mom had finished her meal, she carried Cait off to walk around while wifey and me carry on enjoying the rest of the food. After that, we head to OG to change Cait diaper and at the same time to feed her as well. Without knowing, there's only one baby room located at lvl 3, near the customer service area. While waiting, I had no idea why I did not go to SLS to buy the hdd first. Instead, I kept on waiting until when I mentioned of going to SLS, mom is a little unhappy. Ok, I do not bother and carry on the trip there. As to save some time, I went alone to buy the HDD at VideoPro. Initially, I thought that buying from Cybermind will be better as I can use my CC (no admin fee charge) which the internal hdd of WD 1TB Green cost $152 while VideoPro is $148. When wifey called me, I thought she got the ready cash, so I head to food court to find them and she end up passing me the ATM card! Anyway, I had enough cash to buy the HDD now, so I went to draw the money out and buy the disk at VideoPro. At least I saved $4 from Cybermind and making my CC bills smaller.

I still have my Capitaland Voucher to use so I brought mom, wifey and Cait to Funan to buy my ext hdd! I know that I can buy from SLS, but I need to use the voucher before 25th!

Parking at OG is expensive, for 2hrs, I paid $6 for the carpark! But luckily I went in before ERP operation start.

Again, to save time, I went up to buy the disk at Challenger along. I did some research on the ext hdd which is compatible to use for Wii USBloader. It is weird that my Sandisk thumbdrive of 4Gb suppose to work but it does not, and a pity that I lost my 8Gb drive as according to the chart, there's no issue at all.

I guessed that it is blessing in disguise when I saw that Challenger do not sell 1TB, WD My Book Essential. There's only 640Gb and the 1TB is My Book Home Edition. I almost bought it but I had gut feeling that Cybermind might have the Ext HDD I wanted, so I went down to check it out! It is blessing for me! There's 1TB WD My Book Essential and selling at $199 (I checked up on Cybermind price list before hand, so $199 is the max I am willing to pay). My Book Home Edition is $229 (I reckon) which included FireWire port, and I do not need that, so Essential is the best for me since it is cheaper. Also, luckily Cybermind do accept the voucher of $80! So I paid $119 thru the card.

Oh yes, I did a check on the compatible to use for Wii USBloader， WD My Book Essential is workable and not Home Edition! *Sweat*

WD external is for my backup of photos and I am paritioning now of 10 Gb for Wii USBloader. (Hoping it will work!) And for internal 1TB HDD Green, it is for my NMT which I hope that it will arrive by Friday!

As I am clearing my room, I did some minor arrangement because I wanted to start my music production again. =) So I began to move things around, but there's some stupid smell, as if like Hong Kong foot which is so unbearable! After checking through, wifey and me thought it is the diaper bags that caused it, but we are wrong. It is from my LowePro camera bag after hours of guessing! It covered with salty smell with yucky alcohol smell! Maybe I should consider a new camera bag soon in future.

While moving things away, I decided to get rid of my crumpler bag. I am not using them anymore so, selling off is the best choice. I hereby post this photo on my blog for the potential customer to view.


Selling my 5 yr old crumpler laptop bag which is a B'day gift when I just join my company. I had not use it for a long time and seriously, I do not need it anymore, so I decided to let go.

Yes, obviously there's cupboard smell, and washing is a must. No cut or anything at all. Just that color is a little yellow inside.


The side is a little yellowish but overall, it is as new.

It is a gift as well, but from my boss. No idea how can I use it. So it will come with the bag.
