Birthday gift for myself

I cannot deny anymore, I really want a new monitor speaker for a long time.

Look like my wishes came true because my right studio monitor is going to raise white flag! The volume went down ridiculously low, even how much I pumped up the volume and push up the gain knob.

Hence, I am hoping for a nice monitor - Adams A5X. But that will be too costly, even it I can get the staff discount from my company! Our sister company is one of the main distributor for Adams - the wonderful monitor speaker.

But, I had to plan properly. Get a small one and budget type, so that I will not bleed like in the past. Hence, KRK Rokit 5!  I am not a professional user; too high end will be overkill.

I went down for testing in Sinamex - the boss was very patient with me because of requesting different genre of music. I end up chose 1 level up because I am using that as pleasure listening as well.

Good bye to my old monitor speaker that serve me well for the past 5 years.

Right monitor seem to die off as the volume is too low.

On my Birthday, I got myself a new pair of studio monitor. A Brand that I thought I will not get in the past due to bad experience.

Now, I decided to give a go since it is pretty good and known to most people. Best yet, affordable and superb sounding.

Mine inventory

My new added stuff!
Head unit upgraded to 4350.

Having this DVD HU is great, I can put in the education show for my kids to watch in car while traveling. They have no choice but to sit still and watch it throughout. It is pretty hard to get them down and watch at home, especially to my elder daughter.

Thus, I decided to get the headrest monitor as well. This is to prevent Cait from twisting her body to the side and watch the show in front.

This is so much like Inflight Entertainment, huh!

New inventory for my car - head rest monitor for kids to enjoy.

Having said, I decided to add an amp and woofer too. I, a person who enjoyed music so much, finally decided to add in the woofer with the original amp.

No, there's no need for you to get into brand like Focal, Audison and such.. unless you are pretty loaded, of course.

For me, it is just a basic things to enjoy the music. When you want to get into serious on music, you can consider much higher end, but remember that you have to do sound proof too.

I will, rather put the money for a good cause. At least putting it for charity or for home audiophile. =)

This is a never ending story, do not get yourself poisoned.

Sound not bad tho, had it tuned to my own liking.

Remember - to get what you want is your own liking and not others. We have different taste of music.

Nevertheless, I am super contented now. =)

If you are good at it, do you still need a good Phantom video cam?
That's just a side joke by Petapixel.

Are you a music appreciator?

So what is music appreciator and who is the one?

I believe most of us are but it depend on which group do you belong to. Remember, it varies a lot.

In short, a music appreciator is someone who appreciate music!
Ok, it seem inappropriate to say that. How about a little more information instead?

There are different types and group of people who appreciate music.
Be it any age, gender and what equipment do you have.

Let's go in depth about it.

Having hi-end equipment does not make you as a true-blue music appreciator, in fact minority are. Most of the people who get the top range equipment is because they read via magazine, forum and recommendation by others. Technically, they may be strong but they might not be able to answer back when a question is thrown to them.

Which group do they belong to?

I will say the type that willing to pay high price for good quality system.

Even a true-blue music appreciator might not have the top range equipment. But they can tell the difference on how the person sing and what sorta musical instrument had been used. E.g. Listening via a PC or a mini hi-fi with a normal headphone.

Unless they have money to splurge on, they can get a hi end headphone with a DAC, plug to the PC to enjoy the music. At least it is inexpensive compare to audiophile speaker, amps and mono block, with carpet laying down and set up bass trap  to get the true sound.

Does that resemble a recording mixing studio? Yes, you bet.

Internet conclude a lot of information on sound frequency whereby you can trap or eliminate by not having too much of reverberation as well. Remember, there is guideline for a mixing studio to follow. At home, we are facing a lot of unwanted noise, unless you have the money to build a room in a room to reduce all the unwanted frequency.

But, is there a need for you to do so?

It all depend on how enthusiastic are you.

If you were to ask me, I will not overly spend the amount of money on such high end equipment unless I am really financially strong.
Just like I was chatting with my friend earlier on about home AV and car audio.

Does the people really know the music so well, or it is the equipment they are comparing with?

Does  competition really matters to them? In fact a little. Who will get the most credit? Organiser, of course, follow by the shop and the tuner.

Of course there is no wrong entering competition at all, but what I am saying here is a true-blue music appreciator. Just like my ex colleague who always buy CDs monthly because he love them so much. Fortunately, the company is dealing with music, hence he tend to enjoy the CDs on his beloved CD player. Often, both of us and some colleagues will have discussion about the songs been produced.

So, are we a music appreciator?
I have no words on my own, perhaps, maybe? That's part of our job as well because we have to accept different genre and languages.

Now, after saying so much, which group or type are you belong to?

A person who buy expensive equipment and know them all?
Or a person who buy but have minimal knowledge?
Or maybe a person who do not have expensive equipment but know the music well.

Eminem - Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna

Simple MV and great melody.

I was the fans of Eminem way before when he start slim shade shady tune. But I wasn't towards Rihanna - Umbrella. Look like this great music sung by Rihanna proved me wrong.

Lego to do music!

via engadget

I am surprised to see that Yoshi AKAI made one of the most interesting sequencer by using LEGO! Yes, you got it. Lego, the one with colorful bricks, different length and shapes. All these will be transform into sound which the video below tell you all. I still cannot figure, how does different color create different tone.

Certainly remarkable and the experimental sound is indeed awesome... I almost feel like I'm in 70s! Or perhaps, thinking of the famous German guys: Kraftwerk!

As from engadget:
In 2007, steampunk musician Yoshi Akai wrote his master's thesis on how to turn color into sound, and he's been dreaming up unorthodox ways of producing music ever since. Case in point: the Lego Sequencer MR II, a contraption that uses three-dimensional Lego structures to emulate a three-channel, eight-step sequencer, where each differently colored plastic brick produces a different sound and complex combinations (including tremolo and overdrive) are possible when the blocks are stacked. Akai tells us it works using resistors embedded in each and every block, with parallel networks of resistors formed as the bricks pile up, equalling lower resistance and thus a higher frequency sound generated by the contraption. While the result certainly won't back a techno track -- Akai says he's "building sound more than playing sound" -- it looks like a good step up from the lethargic phaser noise produced by his Wireless Catcher, a lot of fun to play with, and much less expensive than hiring a team of hot models.

Applaud to this interesting concept!

Pioneer CDJ2000

via Business Wire

Delicious looking CDJ turntable bring the new Art of DJing!

Come to think about it, everything is all about MP3 in your HDD. Do DJ still prefer to burn the CD out? Of course, it is good to see all the tags on screen, but having the laptop contain all your genre, connected to any CDJ1000 with Serato or Torq, it still works great!

Feel that it cost a lot?

Get Torq Xponent instead! All in one connected to your PC.

Let's calculate together about how many songs can you burn in a CD. Now I am talking about mp3 format data and not even audio wav.

1 song consist of at least 2 remixes and it can go up to 7-10! Are you going to burn and play some mixes you might not want to listen? But having the song in your hdd, you can choose to keep or delete tho. Save the earth without CD, please.

But this CDJ2000 allow you to plug in your HDD as well! How great huh? The sad part will be the screen. I personally prefer to see from laptop than on the small screen CDJ 2000, but it does help you to reduce the carrying of your expensive laptop around.

Here's what they mentioned.

Quote from Business Wire

Prepared For Any Performance
Adapting to today’s variety of media formats, the CDJ-2000 and CDJ-900 enable playback of MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF audio files from CDs and USB memory devices, and from DVDs and SD cards as well on the CDJ-2000. A USB port located on top of the turntable enables users to quickly connect an external storage device such as a Tonium Pacemaker™2 or a hard drive packed with music files, minimizing the need to bring a laptop computer to performances.

Both the CDJ-2000 and CDJ-900 turntables include rekordbox™, Pioneer’s proprietary music management software that organizes and catalogs a DJ’s entire music library. When music files are imported to rekordbox, the software analyzes each file and prepares them for use specifically with the new CDJ turntables.

Tweet tweet

via James Reeve

How much you love twitting? Ha! I do not post so much until recently.

For instance, yesterday someone asked me how to do this and that on photoshop and I have no answer to her despite searching around Google. Answer is there but not the one she or I wanted.

Well, I do want to know it as well so I decided to post the question on my twitter via TweetDeck. I do follow quite a number of people like DJ, designer, music, friends, internet radio etc...

Ok.. I try my LUCK tho

Kidding huh? Guess what?

Yes! Someone replied me on Twitter! I'm so glad that @TipSquirrel answered my question though! Thanks!

At the same time, I tried on photoshop and finally get it right! Of course, she is pretty happy after getting the answer she wanted. Most importantly, follow the right people and you get the answer! Much faster then facebook huh!

Interesting and appreciated for the help!

Listening to wonderful tune now which I just 'mixed' yesterday. Ok.. it is not that kinda DJ BPM pitch (beat match ) but using waveform to slice every single beat to match the previous song BPM. Yes, I got to cut some waveform and it does not sound so 'obvious' tho.

I do not know how to make it the BPM match using Samplitude 7. Spare me that.

This time, the mix is better then before!

If you want to listen, let me know and I shall host it up.

Awesome Video to share

I was looking at Spectrasonic demo video earlier on until I found this awesome film composer, Rob Power. The score that he composed is terrific! This video, which is the 2nd one, is my favourite.

Fall in love with such film score!
